Façade restoration of Palau de la Generalitat de Cataluña and Pont del Bisbe.

Façade restoration of Palau de la Generalitat de Cataluña and Pont del Bisbe.

FEATURES

The restoration involved a variety of works on the façade of the Palau.

The brass letters over the main entrance on the Principal Façade, affected by the passage of time and acts of vandalism, were restored by means of chemical and mechanical cleaning.

In Calle del Bisbe, several restoration works of the material (Montjuic stone) to the original state were carried out, as it suffered from rapid deterioration due to its location.

In Pont del Bisbe, one of the major tourist points of interest in the city, a number of processes were carried out, including full surface cleaning, pre-consolidation and consolidation of polychrome and wooden supports, solvent cleaning and chromatic restoration.

In general, the lower part of the façade suffers from various types of degradation, from the acts of vandalism through to graffiti, cracks and similar damage. As a result, urgent interventions have been carried out on numerous occasions without any type of criteria regarding conservation.

OBSERVATIONS

Palau de la Generalitat is the seat of the Presidency and the Government of Cataluña. The intensive government activities take place inside. It is one of the few medieval buildings in Europe that is kept in use by a government, an institution that had constructed it. It is located in the historic quarter of the city of Barcelona.
